A Joyous Purim Celebration at Chamah

Costumes, Dance, and Holiday Spirit Bring Smiles to Our Seniors

Seniors at the Chamah Senior Citizen’s Center enjoyed a wonderful Purim celebration filled with joy and festivity.

Dressed in costumes, they embraced the holiday spirit, indulging in a festive spread featuring freshly baked Hamantaschen (holiday treats) made on-site, along with other treats.

Purim is a joyous Jewish holiday celebrating the survival of the Jewish people from Haman’s plot, as recounted in the Book of Esther. The day is marked by reading the Megillah (the story of Purim), giving charity to those in need, enjoying a festive meal, and sharing Shalach Manos—gifts of food exchanged among friends to foster unity and joy.

Adding to the festivities, one of the women, a talented ballad poet, shared a stirring narrative of the Purim story.

The highlight of the event was a special dance session led by renowned choreographer Dorit Arubas, who tailored the movements to suit the seniors, ensuring an uplifting and engaging experience.

Notably, Dorit's husband is Dvir Arubas, commander of the Sderot Police. On October 7th he heroically fought to protect his city and tragically lost many members of his team in the battle. ■
