A New Torah for the Jewish Community in Moldova

A Sacred Gift Strengthening Jewish Identity

In a powerful moment of Jewish unity and continuity, philanthropist Dr. Alex Rovt arrived at the Chamah – Bet Yosef Jewish Community Center in Kishinev, Moldova, to personally bring the new Sefer Torah he sponsored together with Yuri Drukker, dedicated to the local Jewish community. This meaningful initiative was made possible through Chamah’s efforts, furthering its mission of strengthening Jewish life worldwide.

This sacred Torah now stands at the heart of a thriving Jewish hub in Kishinev, where hundreds of Jewish university students study. For them, this Torah is a great inspiration and source of light, strengthening their connection to Jewish values and traditions.

Beyond the students, the Jewish Center in Moldova, headed by Rabbi Rachamim Belenky, has also become a vital refuge for many Jewish families who have fled Ukraine in recent years. For these refugees, it is not only a place of physical support but also a spiritual anchor, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and faith.

With this meaningful Torah dedication, Dr. Rovt has reinforced the unbreakable bond of the Jewish people, ensuring that wherever they may be, they are never without the light of their heritage.

During his visit, Dr. Rovt also visited the nearly completed new building in Kishinev, which will expand support for Jewish refugees and the many Jewish students studying in the city.

A steadfast supporter of Chamah and many other Jewish causes, Dr. Rovt’s generosity continues to uplift Jewish communities worldwide, ensuring that wherever Jewish people may be, they are never without the light of their heritage. In Israel, one of Chamah’s buildings was dedicated in memory of his parents, a testament to his commitment to preserving and strengthening Jewish life. ■
