Sharing the Sweetness of Shavuos
Chamah Delivers Holiday Joy to Single Mothers in Israel
Chamah runs a program for single mothers called Itach Balev (אתך בלב), which means “With You, in Heart.” In honor of the Shavuot holiday, Chamah distributed “thinking of you” gifts to women in the program.
Each beautifully wrapped package included a gourmet cheese cake, personally delivered along with words of encouragement. This small gesture helped add a touch of holiday warmth into their homes.
We eat dairy on Shavuot for several reasons rooted in Jewish tradition. One explanation is that when the Torah was given at Mount Sinai, the laws of kosher slaughter and meat preparation were introduced—but the people didn’t yet have the means to follow them, so they ate dairy instead. Another reason ties to the verse that describes the Torah as “milk and honey,” symbolizing its richness and sweetness. Cheesecake has become a popular and festive way to honor this tradition. ■
