Holiday Event for Seniors
Celebrating the upcoming Rosh Hashana holiday, marking the Jewish New Year
Chamah hosted a warm and meaningful event for seniors, including WWII veterans, to celebrate and learn about the upcoming Rosh Hashanah holiday.
The evening began with a festive meal that included traditional holiday foods — apples dipped in honey for a sweet year, pomegranate seeds symbolizing abundance, and blessings with a heartfelt L’Chaim for the New Year. The sound of the shofar filled the room, music lifted spirits, and a lively trivia contest sparked smiles and memories. Each veteran left with a thoughtful gift in hand.
For many of these seniors, the Chamah Center has become a second home. Alongside social gatherings like this, they benefit from ongoing programs that provide companionship, a sense of community, and practical help. Extra food and supplies are distributed to supplement what they may be missing, easing the burden for those who struggle with poverty, loneliness, or lingering trauma from the war.
This event was a reminder for them that they are not forgotten, and that the new year can be entered with dignity, connection, and hope. ■
