Spreading the New Year Joy

As we welcome the Jewish New Year, the Chamah Center in Israel is dedicated to spreading the holiday joy to those in need during this challenging time

The Jewish New Year is a time for reflection and renewal and our goal is that the holiday spirit should be shared with those who need it most. Chamah in Israel continues its dedicated support for the underserved through a range of initiatives, and in honor of the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot, we are working to make the holidays more meaningful and joyous for those facing hardship with our services, activities and heartfelt care.

Celebrating with Veterans and Senior Citizens

At the WWII Veterans and Senior Citizens Center, Chamah held a special celebration. The elderly participants enjoyed a full meal and lively entertainment. Members of the municipality joined, offering their blessings for the new year. The seniors learned about the customs and the significance of the holiday. Special symbolic foods for the Rosh Hashana holiday were enjoyed including apples dipped in honey and other foods, expressing our prayers and hopes for a sweet year ahead. And a holiday toast was shared to welcome the new year. Each attendee also received thoughtful gift as part of the celebration.

Aid for the Elderly and Those in Need

• Food boxes are being distributed to homebound elderly and other individuals in need, ensuring they have essential staples for the holiday and for many days after.
• Food card vouchers are being given out, providing the needy with the dignity to choose their own items in their local grocery stores.
• Hot, nutritious meal trays are being delivered, bringing comfort and sustenance to the homebound and those unable to prepare meals themselves.

Support for Soldiers

Chamah in Israel also extended its efforts to IDF soldiers and their families:
• Gifts were given to the families of soldiers, expressing gratitude for their sacrifice.
• Care packages and sandwiches are delivered to soldiers, offering them nourishment and a taste of home while they serve to protect the Holy Land.

Support for Single Mothers

In addition to these initiatives, Chamah runs a special program called איתך בלב (Itach Balev—With You in Our Heart), which provides support for single mothers. In honor of the Holidays, special packages were delivered to many single-mother families. Each package included an abundance of food items, fruits, vegetables, clothing, and shoes for each child. Additionally, sweet holiday gifts were given to these hardworking women, acknowledging their efforts and showing appreciation for the challenges they face.

Chamah’s High Holidays programs is bringing warmth, care, and joy to those who need it most.
