The Iran War

The war may be over, but the need is far from gone and Chamah is standing by to assist those affected and in need

The formal war with Iran ended in a ceasefire, but its devastating impact left lasting scars—and the conflict continues through Iran’s proxies: Hamas, Hezbollah, and others.

Operation Rising Lion, launched by the IDF against the Iranian terror regime, saw Iran sending a relentless barrage of about 550 deadly ballistic missiles and 1000 drones aimed at millions throughout Israel. Sirens blared across the country and families rushed to bomb shelters at all hours of the night and day, hoping for safety from the destruction.

But there were those who cannot run or who do not have a shelter very close by. The elderly, some of whom are Holocaust survivors, are trapped and too frail or weak to seek shelter. They can only wait in fear, hoping that the missiles will not reach them. In one heart-wrenching moment, a 100-year-old Holocaust survivor was pulled from the rubble of his home after a missile strike. He survived. But his beloved wife did not. This is the tragic reality for many families in Israel.

During the 12-day conflict with Iran, 28 people were killed, including a 95-year-old Holocaust survivor and a 7-year-old Ukrainian cancer patient. Over 3000 others were also injured—including 23 who were seriously injured and 111 who suffered significant injuries. Hundreds of buildings and homes were damaged or destroyed and thousands were displaced.

Yet, even in the face of these hardships, the resilience of our people continues to shine through. The Chamah Community Center has been a vital lifeline for families and individuals affected by the ongoing impact of the war with Hamas since October 7th. Programs and services at the center continue to function, and we are delivering hot meals to homebound seniors, distributing food boxes with vital supplies to families, and offering emotional comfort and visits for our isolated elderly to remind them that they are not forgotten.

Food insecurity remains a pressing issue, especially for blue-collar workers who are still struggling to feed their families, burdened by skyrocketing food prices and reduced wages. To address this, we continue to provide nutritious breakfasts and subsidized lunches for children from low-income families at schools in Jerusalem, Ashkelon, and Ofakim, ensuring they can learn and grow, despite the hardships they face.

As we recover from the devastation, we are committed to ensuring that the elderly, children, and families who continue to struggle have the support they need.

At this critical moment, we need your help more than ever to continue our mission of providing aid to the families, children, and elderly who remain in need.
